NIKOLAOS NIKOLAIDIS

Team leader and Koiliaris pilot leader

Professor in the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, he has served as the Deputy Rector for Financial Planning and Development of the TUC and the Director of HersLab. Prior to joining TUC, he was a professor and director of the Environmental Engineering Program at the University of Connecticut, USA. His areas of expertise include: Watershed Scale Studies and Modelling, Heavy Metal Site Assessment and Remediation, and Sustainable Development. He has over 30 years of professional experience and has participated in many European and Greek funded watershed studies. He has published over 280 peer reviewed journal papers, conference proceedings, books and book chapters, has an h-index of 48 (Google Scholar) and more than 5900 citations)

MARIA LILLIS

Research support in the Pilot area

Environmental Engineer (PhD) and research associate in Hydrogeochemical Engineering and Remediation of Soils Lab at the Technical University of Crete. She has participated in several European and national funded research projects. Her research interests include contaminated ecosystems and restoration of degraded ecosystems and has experience in field studies, laboratory experimentation and mathematical modeling, geochemical modeling, soil management and agricultural development

DIONISSIS EFSTATHIOU

Research support in the Pilot area and instrumentation

Electronics & Computers engineer – His main focus is on developing database systems, environmental sensor networks (IoT), web applications and statistical analysis on environmental data. He has more than 15 years’ experience in environmental monitoring, both in terms of hardware and software through the development of specialized databases, custom software for managing and analyzing environmental data, data modeling and web-based systems design and implementation


GEORGE MARKOGIANNAKIS

Field technician in the Pilot area

Surveying Engineer – He has been working the last several years on environmental monitoring at the Koiliaris Critical Zone Observatory, maintaining instrumentation, water and soil sampling, hydrologic measurements and assisting with field experiments

ANTONIA MARAGKAKI

Research suppoprt

She is a Professional Environmental Engineer and a research assistant at the Hydrogeochemical Engineering and Remediation of Soils Lab at the Technical University of Crete. She has extensive experience in hydrologic modeling using the SWAT model
