URI MARCHAIM

Team leader and director of research

Prof Uri Marchaim has an education in Biotechnology and a diploma in Executive Business Management. In the last 40 years performed research on anaerobic digestion of organic wastes. He is head of the Department of Precision Agriculture and Rural Development, and the director of the European Wing of the MIGAL’s Research Authority. He was the coordinator of 3 EU projects and was involved in other 14 EU funded projects

MOSHE MERON

Pilot leader in the Galilee pilot

Dr Moshe Meron, Head of Crop Ecology Laboratory, MIGAL, conducting Agro-Voltaic research in the LENSES Galilee pilot. Farmer and field advisor in his past, his scientific activity is centred on the introduction of advanced information and sensor technologies into crop production. Dr Meron is currently involved in precision agriculture, remote sensing and plant embedded sensors development

GIORA RYTWO

Research support

Prof Giora Rytwo is head of the Environmental Physical Chemistry Laboratory at MIGAL. His research covers all aspects of colloidal and surface physical chemistry, adsorption & desorption processes; photodegradation and photo stabilization; colloidal and surface chemistry; water treatment and purification; slow and controlled release of pesticides, diffusion processes and energy transfer, adsorption and kinetics modelling, thermodynamics and physical chemistry. In LENSES he is using eddy covariance measuring direct evapotranspiration measurements with drone hyperspectral measurements, CO2 and water balance in fields


SIGAL FISHMAN

Administrative support

Dr Sigal Fishman Turjeman has been working at MIGAL – Galilee Research Institute since 25 years ago. She has a PhD in immunology at Prof Gidi Gross laboratory in collaboration with Prof Suzan Wong, Cardiff University, United Kingdom. Since 2018, she is part of the Research Authority & team member of the European Wing of MIGAL. Manages the EU R&I PEERS project that promotes women in academia. In LENSES her main activity is administration

IDAN KOPLER

Administrative support

Dr Idan Kopler is an ecologist, expert in the fields of Agro-Ecology, Ecohydrology, and Landscape Ecology. He earned his PhD from the University of Haifa. During his Post-Doc, he began investigating the relations of wild vs. cultivated plant societies. Since 2021 he is a member of the European Wing at the Research Authority of MIGAL, where he is responsible for coordinating EU research activities, and mainly of the Horizon Europe framework. In LENSES his main activity is administration

VALERY LEVIN-ORLOV

Research support

Senior Research Assistant and Geographical Information Systems Expert in the Crop Ecology Laboratory. Responsible for the execution of the laboratory research program, and for training and overseeing the operation of the research assistant team She is managing the Northern Med-fly Eradication Project data acquisition and pest control operations, involving 14,000 hectares, 18,500 parcels, 50 pest scouts, 3000 traps, 90 settlements and 9000 landowners. In LENSES Valerie is doing the data integration of sensor and manual sources and data analysis
